Alpha Dawgs vs. Stars on May 25

CALGARY, Alberta (CAHL) – This summer showdown was between the second-year Alpha Dawgs (since 2022) and the first-year Stars.

The SAIT Trojans' alumnus, six-foot-three defender Kabe Bleay, needed only 30 seconds after the opening faceoff to overcome the 85-by-75-foot span of enemy terrain and scorch the inner white meshing to leave a 1-0 mark for the Alpha Dawgs. John McFetridge, who is an alumnus of the AAA Calgary Royals, supplied the spot-on setup.

Matt Lavergne, who played for the AAA Wenatchee Wolves, and Chase Wheatcroft of the NHL Dallas Stars were up next as they strengthened the Alpha Dawgs' position even further to 3-0.

Jake Biddell-Halcrow, who is a Jr. B Calgary Royals Gold alumnus, the WHL Medicine Hat Tigers' captain, Owen MacNeil, and the Jr. A Calgary Canucks' alumnus, Alex Heal, were the Alpha Dawgs' deliverers of the dead-on dishes.

The North American universities' dynamic duo of Rhys Bentham of the Yale University Bulldogs and Mack Stewart of the University of Calgary Dinos combined their skill sets as they countered for the Stars, with Rhys Bentham launching the vulcanized bullet to conclude the first frame down 3-1.

In the second period, Jason Lavergne, who is an alumnus of the AA Calgary Royals Gold, Jackson Zloty of the Maryville University Saints, Owen MacNeil, and Matt Lavergne fuelled a four-score firestorm for the Alpha Dawgs.

The Alpha Dawgs' fearless five of Logan Shaw, who is a Jr. A Salmon Arm Silverbacks' alumnus, Alex Heal, Chase Wheatcroft, Kabe Bleay, and the Jr. B Edmonton Mustangs alumnus, Ethan Beattie, feathered the feeds.

Carter Massier of the University of Calgary Dinos, who scored twice, and William Vernon were the Stars' deadly sharpshooters as they entered the second intermission with a 7-4 deficit.

Tanner Ruby, Grayson Dietrich of the American International College Yellow Jackets, Kjell Moller, who is an alumnus of the AAA Calgary Royals, Nico Kane, who is a Jr. A Whitecourt Wolverines alumnus, and the Jr. B Calgary Royals Gold alumnus, John Vernon, contributed the cross-hatched munitions for the Stars.

During the final chapter, Michael Hodge of the Union College Dutchmen scored twice, while Jake Biddell-Halcrow, Ethan Rowland, who is a Kamloops Blazers' alumnus, Chase Wheatcroft, and Jackson Zloty all rippled the back of the opposition net for the Alpha Dawgs to seize a 13-8 victory to improve their record to 2-0. Michael Hodge, Chase Wheatcroft, and Owen MacNeil administered the assists.

The third-period offence of the Stars was orchestrated by the marksmanship of Grayson Dietrich, William Vernon, Carter Massier, who completed his hat trick, and Rhys Bentham. They were backed by Mack Stewart, John Vernon, Nico Kane, and Kjell Moller.

Chase Wheatcroft produced a powerful first-star four-point performance with a pair of goals and assists for the Alpha Dawgs.

Regarding their second straight win, Chase Wheatcroft explained, "Yeah, I mean, we got a great group in there, and that's kind of where it comes from. I mean, every guy in there's, ah, willing to die for the Alpha Dawgs, and that's what makes us so great. Um, we're a deep team, and I'm excited to see how far we can take this thing this year."

Chase Wheatcroft also served notice to all of the opposition, saying, "Um, you know, watch out, 'cause the Alpha Dawgs are coming. They're coming hard here, and we're ready to go, so."

The Alpha Dawgs' second star, Matt Lavergne, possessed a great two-goal game.

Carter Massier tallied a tremendous hat trick for the Stars and was the third star.
